The Special Anniversary Draw of the 300 Club was held on 10th December and the ‘Star Prize’ of £1000 was won by Chris Robins.
Chris is, of course, well known to most of our readers, being a Vice President of the Club who has served it with distinction for very many years, predominantly as the 1st Team’s very able and efficient Fourth Official, until handing over to Pete Orton. Chris continues to be present at 1st team matches, home and away, to provide additional support as needed.
In a packed clubhouse at half time on Saturday, the 300 Club’s founder, former Club Captain and Past President Derek Nutt, who created the 300 Club in 2006, presented Chris with a very unlikely looking cheque for £1000! Chris was then mildly reassured that, to use a well-worn phrase, “the cheque’s in the post”! Hopefully, it's arrived by now!
In introducing Derek and thanking him for establishing the 300 Club ten years ago, MPA Chairman Peter Veitch pointed out that the 300 Club had donated approximately £35,000 towards the development of rugby at the Club and support for its Colts, Development and Academy teams during the ten years.
Derek thanked all present who had supported the 300 Club and urged those who were not members to join it, pointing out that, without a successful and thriving Development Section, there might not be a 1st Team of any merit to watch. He also reminded those present that membership only costs £5.00 a month.
Those now wishing to join can download an application form from below. Forms are also available behind the Reddings Suite and Clubhouse bars and, on match days, at the MSA desk and in Box 6.
The other Anniversary Draw winners were:
£150 – Bill Marsden, £75 – Mary Bucknall, £50 – Malcolm Davies, £25 – Nigel Lyon, Phil Hall, David Calcutt and Pam Hall and the Anniversary Draw £40 Club Shop vouchers – John Beale, Peter Hawkes, Stephen George and Paul Read.
As always, congratulations to all those winners, especially Chris Robins, and commiserations to those who didn’t. Meanwhile, thanks to all past, present and future 300 Club members for your wonderful support.
