I was thinking about this too last night, but came to the conclusion it's not going to be any time soon. I can't see how the club is going to generate the surplus funds on top of the Reddings money to pay for it, unless there's some sort of grant, bequest or sugar daddy involved. It's a big, big project and I respect the management for their dedication and resistance to moving forward beyond their means. What we have is adequate and that's about it, nothing flash but it does the job. Personally I think we should concentrate on top 8 finishes and hope that brings a few more bodies and sponsors through the door to enable us to build our collective club house dream. It will happen, just unlikely in the immediate future, but I'd love to be proved wrong.
You say what we have is adequate - and so it is for the time being. But how many more winters will the current club house and stand last? Not many IMHO
Yup I tend to agree ale. What we have is adequate for now. Although it could be viewed as a bit chicken and egg - its hard to attract new people and sponsors through the door when you view the facilities we have (they're a fickle bunch), and without their support will we get enough money for squad strengthening to to consistantly get top 8 finishes. However having said that I think with the current squad we have we can get a top 8 finish and that MIGHT get the ball rolling (not that rugby balls roll).
As I have said above the casual support for the club will possibly not be impressed with with facilities, but if the results are going the right way and their is a buzz in the crowd, it might encourage them to give us another shot.
For me, I enjoy a day out with my mates, and so long as the beer is flowing and I've got my bench to stand on I am pretty happy with what we've got.
