This Saturday (Sept 14th) Castle Park plays host to the Greene King IPA Championship Double Header as Rotherham Titans lock horns with Moseley and Nottingham take on Leeds Carnegie as the 2013/14 Championship season launches in style. A big crowd is anticipated for the clash, which coincides with the St Leger festival at Doncaster Racecourse, and as such traffic in the town is likely to build up.

To try and relieve some of the car flow through Doncaster town centre we ask if all spectators travelling to Castle Park could use junction 4 off the M18 thus avoiding St Leger traffic and hopefully getting you to the game much quicker.

Extra car park provisions have also been made for the day as Danum School have kindly come on board to assist in overflow parking. The School Car park will be opened and manned by school personnel from 12 noon at a cost of £3.00, the same as Castle Park. If you are travelling from junction 4 off the M18 Danum school is the next left turn off after Castle Park.

I agree. Just has to kick sensibly and link the forwards and the backs without looking to show off or to win the game himself. I see they are full of our rejects in the pack...

Not sure about the 'rejects' comment. Dan (yellow card) Sanderson always seems to dominate the line out against us and will need to be avoided at all costs.

I always thought Quigley was very useful for us when he was bothered and Gadd seems to be a regular starter for them now so one assumes he must have come on since his time with us.

I'm sure we will not be underestimating them but this certainly seems a winnable fixture!

Ollie in - good. No cover on bench though, also no Hafu or Shaggy on bench - but looks good overall. Hopefully, Simon Hunt will be strong defensively - I would target him if I was Roth.
Surely, if we can get ball to our backs, we will be fine. No yellow cards please.

Well. We don't seem too good on opening day fixtures in recent years. However, if you give away 6 penalties (I think it was) we are unlikely to be in may games! I think they call it pressure. Hope injured player is OK. Just have to pay them back at the Common at the end of September!!

Very disappointing trip. Couldn't bear to stay around for Notts v Leeds, but in fairness most of them didn't come early to watch us either! Mose fans outnumbered by an estimated 10-1 by Roth fans (probably as 10 times closer!) Double-header at a neutral ground? Joke.

Back from game and stayed for the second one.
I'm afraid no positives from that performance apart from Williams in attack and defence.
Our defence was poor and once they saw we could not tackle in the centres they opened us up time after time.
Scrum struggled, line out ok.
We need a big improvement otherwise I think it could be another season fighting the drop.
I think it was Brightwell who was carried off on stretcher straight to the ambulance in attendance.No news.

yes - very very disappointing. We scrapped in at half time 15-9 down - which was a miracle considering the possession & situations Roth had. Thought we'd be fast out for second half - but immediately gave 3 quick penalties away & 9 further points.

All game their 9 seemed to be able to gain big yards around rucks & scrums. Plus their 12 made numerous breaks usually through enormous great chasms in our defence.

Amazingly, after a good Moseley break & Hunt score we were only 8 points down with c.15 left. But we bounced off tackles all over the place & let Roth run away it. Excellent long distance try from Matt Williams on last play of the match.

Saw second match where Notts gave Leeds a good beating, Leeds late try gave score a closer look. Noticed Notts won 4/5 of Leeds scrums.

Thanks MSA for good trip - excellent clubhouse breakfast was unfortunately the highlight of the day.

Well folks a beautiful day and a super ground and pitch to play on - and that was it.

From a Moseley point of view the game was bloody awful and I am absolutely livid. Someone recently mentioned on the message board about the dangers of playing an expansive attractive game such as was played in both the Newport game and the Northampton game and that perhaps Moseley should keep it "a bit tight" - or words to that effect - just as they have done of recent.

Well, whosoever it was said that got there wish because the Moseley of recent turned up today every kick possession away lock, stock and barrel of them. They were awful, absolutely awful, diabolical, totally inept and without the first clue how to sort things out. And the first up tackles throughout the game were dreadful, absolutely dreadful. Even the Moseley front row cast off's Colin Quiggly and Marshall Gadd played the whole game seeing off our vaunted former Welsh International Ben Evans and aspiring Northampton prop Tom Warren in the process. With Moseley constantly penalised in the tight and the loose they must have been chortling all the way to the changing room.

And Alfie To'oala the Rotherham number 8 must have thought it was his birthday as he ran at Moseley from deep time after time after time and broke the gain line time after time after time.

With the score 15 - 9 at half time Moseley I thought Moseley had weathered the expected Rotherham frontal onslaught even though they had persistently kicked possession away at every conceivable opportunity. The fact that they had Olly Robinson - if memory serves me - given a yellow card within 10 minutes and umpteen penalties given away, and thousands of possession kicked away - God forbid there must be a saturation point for kicking possession away but if there is then Moseley haven't found it - I thought that Maggsy would give them a right rollicking at half time and things would settle down.

Did they ummers like.

They started the second half in exactly the same vein and gave a penalty away within seconds of the restart.I did not keep a penalty count but it was horrendous; in fact in the second half alone they gave away scoring penalties at 2:03; 2:06; 2:14; 2:32; 2:35; 2;38; 2:39. The latter penalty was given when Mason was sent off - yet again - and Rotherham scored a converted try directly from it. And those penalties were only the penalties that resulted in a score against us. There were many, many more penalties in the second half alone where position and ground was forfeited. Indeed Rotherham had such a command on the game I could not understand why they even bothered kicking penalties rather than take the inevitable 7 points that would have most surely won.

But amongst the self inflicted carnage there were glimmers of HOPE???

For me the two players who stood out were Greg King and Matt Williams. Gregg King made his first up tackles count time after time; Matt Williams also did well in front on tackles but his work rate and cover defence are something special. On one occasion in the second half the Rotherham number 7 ripped the ball off our player - that happened a worrying number of times throughout the game - and nothing but 25 yards of fresh air between him and the try line. Matty caught him and pulled him down- superb, absolutely superb.

And at the death he finally got the ball on our 25 with a bit space outside him and that was all he needed, he was gone and under the posts.

There were glimpses of the Newport and Northampton style of open, shoulder offload, style of play and they were fruitful; they didn't finish up with scores but they were encouraging. They were noticed by the Leeds coach AND the Nottingham coach. However, they were not worried. Although Leeds lost to Nottingham 24 - 16 either of them would have made mincemeat with Rotherham today and as for Moseley, there would have been an absolute cricket score.

Needless to say although I will be at the Rotherham return game in 2 weeks time Pam and I will certainly NOT entertain travelling to Plymouth next week, or any other away game for that matter. And you won't hear a "Come on Mooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooose" for a while either. I'm going on strike until Maggsy sorts thing out. So there!!
