THE "BILLESLEY BIG MATCH PREVIEW‟ – By John Duckers
“Moseley Oak look to turn on the style”
Moseley Oak v Bridgnorth
Saturday 21st April 2012, 3.00pm @ Billesley Common
Moseley Oak goes into the last game of the season against Bridgnorth looking to put on a good show. And, with the 1st XV away at Plymouth Albion, it is an opportunity for enthusiasts to see an open and attacking contest this Saturday on the main pitch at Billesley Common.
The home side has an incentive to do well.
Promoted last year, Moseley Oak went up to Bridgnorth for the first match of the season somewhat unsure what to expect. The pitch turned out to be some distance from the clubhouse, the facilities proved spartan, and the welcome was muted. A rude awakening.
Consequently Moseley Oak, with a team finding its feet and still to get its head round the demands of a new and tougher division, was easily beaten 36-5. It took Moseley Oak another four games to register a win.
Now a much more worldly-wise team have a chance to show how much they have improved.
And, whatever the result, Bridgnorth will this time know they have been in a game. Across mid-season Moseley Oak put together a wonderful run which took them to third in the table.
Since then the school of hard knocks has taken its toll and the club has slipped back to sixth.
Still, that is in many ways an excellent performance and offers a solid jumping off point to challenge for promotion next year if greater strength in depth can be added – another appeal for the Colts to get on board because this is a good standard of rugby. Please come along and offer your support.
Bridgnorth meanwhile have climbed to third, beating Stafford last time out 36-20. It promises to be a keenly fought contest.
Club chairman John Richards said:
“It has been a rollercoaster first season in this division but there have been some top performances and the guys have acquitted themselves well.
“We have all learned a lot and hopefully that can be put to good use next year. I would like to thank coach John White, the sponsors and the volunteers who have put so much into this enterprise. And thank you to the players in particular who have given so much effort and commitment.”
Coach John White added:
“I have enjoyed watching this side develop and grow. After a slow start we showed what we could do. “There is no doubt we have some talented players. If we can add a few more, and somehow persuade everyone to juggle work sufficiently to attend at least one training session a week, then we can look at taking a further step forward in 2012/13.”
The Oak AGM and social will follow the match. Some important decision to take before we all deservedly let out hair down
